Dear traveller friends,
This is the city guide for Mumbai that I promised to send this month! Please excuse my delay in sending it. It took me longer than expected, and I will plan better the publishing of city guides in the new year :)
I wrote it with nostalgia as I was preparing to fly to Mumbai precisely one year ago.
I know this is a busy time of the year, so maybe save it for later to read once all the festivities have quieted down or when you plan a trip to India :)
In the meantime, I wish you all a sweet and restful time wherever you are…
Mumbai: a quintessential guide for first-timers
*This short guide to Mumbai does not do justice to the place and the size of this peninsula—originally composed of seven islands and inhabited by over 23 million people! But it gives you a first glimpse into this fascinating, thriving city.
Mumbai is a gritty and unforgettable city to visit.
As soon as you leave the airport, you are confronted with nothing less than what has been considered the biggest slum in Asia (Dharavi).
The air is thick and polluted, and the surroundings are noisy, colourful, and chaotic. But in this organised chaos lies so much indescribable beauty and spirituality. One almost has to feel it to understand it. This unique energy is wildly inspiring because you are constantly stimulated and questioned by what is around you.
